It’s Official! Zaidatul Husniah Is Now Malaysia’s Fastest Woman

A few days ago, Malaysian sprinter Zaidatul Husniah Zulkifli competed in the Women’s 100m sprint at the USSA Varsity Sports meet in Potchefstroom.

Not only did she finish strong, she also made history – she clocked in at 11.35 seconds, beating her personal best of 11.62 seconds, and at the same time breaking former national sprinter G. Shanti's record of 11.50 seconds.

G. Shanti's record, mind you, stood for 24 years!

Unfortunately, she was denied the record due to strong tailwind. The wind reading that day was 2.5 metres per second, which was above the limit of 2.0, therefore disqualifying her record.

However, on Thursday, she proved that her feat was no fluke and she’s still worthy of the “fastest woman in Malaysia” title.

She ran in the women’s Group B final 100m race at the ASA Speed Series 2 meet in Bloemfontein, South Africa early Thursday morning and finished with an official time of 11.45 seconds - therefore smashing the 1993 national record.

Her new official achievement was confirmed by national sprint coach, Zainal Abas.

The 24-year-old Penang native previously competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics for a wildcard entry into the women’s 100m.

She is currently on a two-month long competition and training session with other fellow national athletes in preparation for the 2017 Sea Games slated to be held in Kuala Lumpur this August.

We wish her all the best and may her new achievement be an inspiration and motivation to the other national athletes out there. Malaysia Boleh!
