TLDR

  • A Malaysian man has created a website called MasjidKita that lists mosques and suraus across the country that are in need of donations.
  • The website provides information such as the purpose of each fundraising effort, the amount of funds raised, and the bank account details of each institution for direct contributions.

For many Malaysians, dropping a few ringgit into a mosque's donation box is a simple way to give back to the community. Some may contribute after Friday prayers, while others donate whenever they happen to visit a nearby surau. But what if you want to help a mosque in need, yet have no idea where to find one?

A Malaysian man has taken the initiative to create a website that lists mosques and suraus across Malaysia that are seeking donations.

As of now, the website, called MasjidKita, features a total of 32 mosques and suraus from states such as Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Johor, Kelantan, and Penang that are in need of public donations.

For each mosque or surau listed, the website includes a label indicating whether donations are being sought for renovation or construction purposes. It also provides a short description explaining how the donated funds will be used.

Additionally, the website displays the amount raised so far and how much funding is still needed.

Each listing also includes the banking details of the respective mosque or surau, as donations are made directly to the institution and are not processed through MasjidKita.

Another feature of MasjidKita is that visitors can submit details of other mosques or suraus that require donations.

According to the founder, Ameer Shah, all donation listings are verified before being published on the website. He said each mosque or surau must have an approval letter from the relevant authorities before it can be included in the directory.

At the moment, MasjidKita does not have a dedicated mobile app available on Google Play or the App Store.

For more information, or to find out whether mosques and suraus in your area are seeking donations, visit the MasjidKita website.
