3 Rohingya men arrested, 1 still at large

According to Harian Metro, police have arrested three suspects aged between 19 and 28 in connection with the case. All three are of Rohingya descent, while efforts are ongoing to locate a fourth suspect.

Kemaman District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said the arrests were made following a report lodged by a member of the public. The three suspects have been remanded until 12 August to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

“The police are still investigating to identify other suspects who may be involved. We need to thoroughly investigate this case, and the victim also needs to be given some time before the investigation can be completed, considering that she is a person with a disability,” he said.

Police have urged the public not to take vigilante action or make hasty judgments against members of the Rohingya community over the incident.

They also advised the public to exercise caution when sharing information on social media to avoid spreading unverified claims that could incite panic, disharmony, or threaten public safety and order.

Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the nearest police station or the investigating officer, Inspector Mohd Hadaza Mat Amin, at 09-859 2222.
