The Latest Health Trend From South Korea Has People Faking Their Own Deaths

We know it's super weird, but a healing center in South Korea is offering such services for free.

According to a report by Reuters, more than 25,000 people have participated in mass “living funeral” services conducted at the Hyowon Healing Center located in the Yeongdeungpo-gu province in South Korea.

So, why are people faking their own deaths?

Participants believe that the act of simulating their own deaths would greatly improve their lives.

Surprisingly, the service is not only popular among those who are aged, as the participants reportedly range from teenagers to working adults and even retirees.

Among the activities provided by the healing center include taking funeral portraits, penning their last testaments, and lying in a closed coffin for around 10 minutes.

The centre’s head Jeong Yong-mun told the news agency that they began offering the living funerals since 2012 to help people appreciate their lives, and seek forgiveness and reconciliation with family and friends.

“We don’t have forever. That’s why I think this experience is so important - we can apologise and reconcile sooner and live the rest of our lives happily.”

He even managed to dissuade some people who wanted to commit suicide, as the main message he wants people to take away from the odd practice of faking their own death is that "someone else would be so sad if they were gone".
