Malaysian Syabira Yusoff was declared the winner of the hit BBC show The Great British Bake Off, now in its 13th Season.

The 32-year-old cardiovascular researcher in London beat out her contestants Mr Sandro Farmhouse and Mr Abdul Rehman Sharif in the final challenge with her orangutan cake titled 'This Is My Home'.

With the theme of sustainability Syabira managed to represent her homeland and the enviroment in one winning bake:

According to an Instagram post from King's College she started baking in 2017, a mere 5 years and joined the competition after only watching it for 2 years on the telly.

Baking was therapy for her as she felt it was difficult to switch off from her work as a researcher. Syabira said she developed recipes at 5am when she was preparing for the show, and would look at Instagram and Pinterest for ideas.

Her determination to learn new skills gave her the edge as she was able to learn all things bread and pie in a short time in preparation for the show. She had only baked cakes and cookies up to this point.
