Marie-Antoinette once famously said, “Let them eat cake!”, but it doesn’t take a lot to convince us to reach out for a slice of sugary goodness. Videos of cakes always inexplicably rack up millions of views on social media channels, with users even being fascinated by bakers simply applying whipped cream on top of cakes. In recent times, there have been a huge interest in cakes and the pandemic only served to give rise to an increase of home bakers.

Party throwers are also no longer content with having a simple cake for their event, as a luxurious cake is an instant mood booster and will become the talking point of the day. If you have some budget to spare for your next big do, check out these first-rate Malaysian bakers.

Miss Shortcakes

If you’ve watched Netflix’s ‘Is It Cake?’ game show, you will know that it features contestants that create cakes that look impressively like common objects to trick the judges.

We’d absolutely nominate Miss Shortcakes for the show because her cakes are mind-blowing. ‘Miss Shortcakes’ herself, Jessica, specialises in custom cakes where the only limit seems to be your own imagination. From fantastical pieces like this ‘Alice in Wonderland’ themed cake with flowers coming out of a teapot and a grinning Cheshire cat to realistic ‘Burger King’ sets, nothing seems too difficult for this talented baker.

Shaun Teo Creations

Shaun has already amassed almost 300k followers on Instagram and there’s a good reason why: his designer cakes are simply magical! His cakes would be great on his own, but he frequently complements the pieces with extra cupcakes, cake pops and other sweet treats on the side to make the dessert table of your dreams.

He also uses tasteful pastel colours to create castles perched on trees, an owl-themed wonderland in a ‘snow globe’ and more. In this stunning setup, the cupcakes are even placed on a rotating plate and its complete with flashing lights:

If colourful and fanciful concepts aren’t quite your thing, you can check out more minimalistic creations by Syainim Ghazali, who is the cake behind ‘Brown and Sugar’.

They specialise in creating wedding dessert tablescapes and they also sell sweet treats such as macarons and pralines. We find their cakes to be delicate and elegant like this blue tiffin cake adorned with flowers or this shimmery chocolate cake that looks like tin foil.

We find most of their creations to be, well, just absolutely adorable! While they have ready-made items like this bunny-themed cookie cake combo, owner Su-Yin also whips up some fun treats like this ‘Squid Game’ inspired piece, a ‘Dior bag’ we might mistake for the real thing and a dinosaur-themed cake that little boys will surely fight over.
