22yo Malaysian Arrested at Indonesian Airport With Nearly 1kg of Meth & Over 1,000 Ecstasy Pills

Less than a week after a Malaysian pilot was arrested at an Indonesian airport for allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal substances into the country, another Malaysian has been detained for a similar offence.

Harian Metro reported that Indonesian authorities arrested a 22-year-old Malaysian man after allegedly finding nearly a kilogramme of methamphetamine and more than 1,000 ecstasy pills concealed beneath a corset he was wearing.

The man, who was only identified by the initials DI, was arrested at Terminal 2 of Juanda International Airport in Sidoarjo. He allegedly told investigators that he had agreed to work as a courier for an international drug syndicate because he was facing financial difficulties and had accumulated debts.

According to the report, DI attempted to conceal four bags of methamphetamine weighing a total of 990g, as well as another four bags containing 1,089 ecstasy pills.

The seized drugs were estimated to be worth Rp2.79 billion (RM715,000). Authorities added that his arrest may have prevented the drugs from reaching approximately 6,584 users.

The suspect and the seized drugs have since been handed over to the Sidoarjo Municipal Police for further investigation and to assist in uncovering a larger network allegedly involved in international drug trafficking.

If convicted, the suspect may face a prison sentence of between five and 20 years, life imprisonment, or the death penalty.

Previously, a Malaysian pilot was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle drugs

The pilot, identified by the initials MS, was detained on 28 July at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta for allegedly attempting to smuggle 70,114 ecstasy pills weighing 25.19kg.

Authorities said the pilot had told investigators that he had received instructions from an individual to transport the drugs to Jakarta in exchange for a fee of RM50,000. It was also reported that he claimed to have previously carried out two drug smuggling operations to Sabah and another to Jakarta.
