After a search lasting nearly three days, the police have reportedly found six-year-old Albertine Leo Jia Hui, who went missing in Johor Bahru on Saturday.
Following the nationwide manhunt which happened over the past few days, here’s a short chronology of what happened:

Went missing on Saturday

Albertine went missing last Saturday at the Bon Odori festival in Johor, where her parents were manning a stall. They realised she was missing at about 8:30 pm and mounted a search with friends. However, after they couldn’t find her, they lodged a police report.
After receiving the report, Kumar said the Johor contingent mounted an operation to look for Albertine.

Mother warns public not to spread misinformation

On July 21st, her mother went on to urge the public not to spread fake information that could affect the investigation. She said that rumours, fake news and unrelated information about her daughter were spreading on social media.
"Too many people claim on social media that they have seen my daughter. This will affect the police's efforts to find my daughter. I ask everyone to stop spreading inaccurate information," she told reporters.

Local businesses offer rewards to whoever finds her

Meanwhile, various businesses offered incentives for the public to look for Albertine. One cafe owner offered an RM10,000 reward to whoever returned Albertine to their cafe, while an insurance agency offered an RM50,000 reward.

A Malaysian influencer also offered an RM10,000 reward for the six-year-old’s safe return.

Arrests made

Just yesterday (July 23), the police arrested three people, including a woman, to facilitate their investigation into the disappearance.
M Kumar said the three, aged between 28 and 55, were arrested in Iskandar Puteri, Gelang Patah, Johor, to assist in the investigation.
Kumar also said that the police had reclassified the case under Section 365 of the Penal Code for kidnapping or abduction with intent to secretly and wrongfully confine a person.

Found in Batang Kali

She was rescued more than 350km away in Selangor state while the police have arrested a total of five people - three men and two women - in total to assist with investigations relating to the case.
The suspects have been apprehended for kidnapping under section 365 of the Penal Code as well as section 14 (A) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which pertains to touching a child for sexual purposes.
In a press conference, M Kumar confirmed she was found safe at a budget hotel in Batang Kali, Selangor, a district around 50km from Kuala Lumpur.
He said the suspects are being held under sexual assault charges because the child was handled without consent and added that the police are investigating the motive, as there were no calls for ransom.
The police chief said that the five suspects are Malaysian citizens and are all not related to the victim. "The victim has been sent to the hospital for a medical check-up. Her family has been informed," said the police chief.
M Kumar added that the suspect's motives are still being investigated. The suspect will be remanded to allow police to continue with their investigations.
He added that the case was resolved successfully within 48 hours, thanks to tip-offs from members of the public and efforts across all departments of the Malaysian police force.
We hope that Albertine is safe and sound.
