This 9-Year-Old Malaysian Is The Youngest Gold Medalist At The 2017 KL SEA Games
The 29th installment of the SEA Games produced a whole lot of surprises – we broke tonnes of new records, we exceeded our medal target (140 gold medals to be precise), we saw our Sultan Terengganu bringing home gold medals and becoming the first Sultan to ever compete in the SEA Games, and many more.
Just when we thought we’ve seen it all, one boy came along to prove that age is just a number and also set a new bar for his competitors.
Meet Adam Yoong Hanifah, a nine-year-old Malaysian waterskier who won the gold medal in the men’s waterski tricks event.
With the win, he became the youngest gold medal recipient in this edition of the SEA Games.

However, Adam isn’t the youngest gold medal recipient ever at the SEA Games. That title belongs to his sister Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah, who snagged the gold medal during the 2011 SEA Games when she was only eight years old!
Aaliyah skied her way to bag three gold medals in this SEA Games and also set a new national record! She also proved that she’s in her own league while competing in the women’s tricks category after scoring a total of 5,880 points which landed her the gold, while the silver and bronze medalists only managed a paltry 3,450 and 3,380 points.

Guess the sporting genes runs in this family!
But it doesn’t stop there; in case you didn’t know, our former Formula One driver, Alex Yoong is actually their older brother! Isn’t that amazing?
We wish their family all the best and we know one day they’ll be world champions!
