9yo Stray Cat from M’sia Crowned World Champion at International Cat Show in Norway
It seems that our stray cats are well-loved by Malaysians and those abroad. Recently, a nine-year-old stray cat named ‘Baby’ from Malaysia was crowned world champion at the International Cat Show in Oslo, Norway.
The show, organised by the Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe), saw Baby charm the judges not just with her beauty but also with her gentle behaviour.
This was Baby’s second appearance at the FIFe World Cat Show after she last joined the 2017 edition in Amsterdam, where she made the finals. Her entry into the international competition was part of Kelab Kucing Malaysia (KKM) initiative.
In addition to Baby, Malaysia also sent eight other cats to the competition, including four British Shorthairs, three street cats, and one Bengal cat.
The International Cat Show is one of the largest cat events in the world. Over a thousand cats compete for the world winner crown, but there are only 34 winners in various categories.
Baby is owned by Shaharudin Shuid and Rooaida Mohd Darus, who shared the news on their Facebook page.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Berita Harian, Rooaida shared how Baby was rescued from the streets and was gradually trained.
“We exposed Baby to different environments and took her to local cat shows to help her adjust to crowded spaces. This socialisation has nurtured her gentle and affectionate nature.”
Rooaida believes that Baby’s stunning coat, which Shaharudin meticulously groomed, played a role in winning over the judges.
“Baby’s neat and shiny fur was one of the key factors that helped her stand out,” Rooaida explained.
Congratulations Baby. We hope you’ll be rewarded with lots of snacks and wet food!
