We've said it before and we'll say it again: our local traffic policemen are one of the most hardworking and selfless people out there.

Case in point: this abang polis who was spotted clearing a clogged drain to ease traffic flow.

Selfless act

A video showing a traffic policeman doing more than just his jobscope has gone viral on social media recently.

The 10-second-clip showing an unnamed Traffic Investigations and Enforcement Department (JSPT) officer wading through the ankle-deep flood and unclogging drains with his bare hands was shared on the official Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Facebook page.

In the video, the officer can be seen going from one drain hole to another and crouching down to remove solid objects that are blocking the drains on the flooded street.

“Let us get drenched by rain as long as traffic flows smoothly,” read the caption.

According to the Facebook post, the incident reportedly happened along Jalan Raja Chulan on Saturday (21 December) after a heavy downpour.

The video has since been viewed more than 254,000 times on the social media site.

Malaysian Netizens have endlessly praised the noble act of the traffic policeman:

Well done, abang polis. We don't know who you are, but we salute your sense of duty.

We hope you get a promotion soon.
