Cheaper Toll For Malaysians? The Government Is Still Studying The Possibility, Says Minister
We've been hearing about plans to reduce toll rates in the country for awhile now but there hasn't been much of an update.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the govenment is still studying the most viable option to reduce the rates, while taking into consideration the financial burden that such move will put on the government.
According to Berita Harian, he made the statement when he wrapped up his debate on the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12) for his ministry at the parliament.
Need to discuss with various parties
According to the minister, all suggestions will be discussed between the works ministry, finance ministry, the public-private partnership unit (UKAS), the prime minister’s department and related agencies."The government together with the highway concessionaires are studying various initiatives and methods that can be considered to reduce toll rates on highways in the country.
“The Works Ministry has also allowed highway concessionaires to propose methods of financial restructuring of the company for the purpose of reducing toll rates," Fadillah said.
Let's hope that all parties can come to an agreement on the best way to make toll rates cheaper for the people soon.
