A tragic incident involving severe animal neglect was uncovered after a dog and a cat were found dead inside cages at a veterinary clinic in Damansara Damai.

According to a statement by the Malaysian Stray Animal Association (SAFM), the matter was brought to their attention by a former staff member of the clinic.

“A police report was lodged last Saturday by the former staff member, and the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) has also been informed,” the association said in a Facebook post today.

SAFM stated that the clinic’s staff and management must be held accountable for this gross negligence, which violates the laws and ethical responsibilities entrusted to them.

“SAFM urges a thorough investigation by DVS and the Royal Malaysia Police under Section 29 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772).

“This cruel act cannot be tolerated. Those involved must be fully responsible,” it added.

Photos and videos shared online revealed the clinic in a state of neglect with cages bent, rubbish strewn, and animal waste scattered, while rescuers searched the premises.

One cat was found alive and is now receiving treatment, but activists claim the other animals had been left without care for weeks. According to a rescuer, the clinic allegedly shut down three months ago, leaving behind 14 cats and one dog.

Two veterinarians confirmed the dead animals had been decomposing for up to 10 days.

Police investigating the matter

Meanwhile, the police have confirmed they are investigating the death of the animals.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat said they have received reports surrounding the case.
