We Malaysians should count our lucky stars, because we have cheap healthcare services in the country.

Where else in the world would you be able to get treatment at a government clinic for as low as RM1, right?

But unfortunately for some, especially refugees, access to proper but affordable healthcare is almost an impossible thing due to their status.

Don't worry; there's now help in that regard.

A clinic for refugees

A clinic just for refugees.
The Qatar Charity (QC) and Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) has opened its first clinic in Malaysia, specifically to cater to the needs of refugees in the country.

The Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) humanitarian clinic, which was launched on 19 December, is set to benefit 120,000 refugees in the country, The Star Online reported.

The project will see the collaboration of three of the leading medical relief NGOs in Malaysia: Mercy Malaysia, the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia (IMARET) and the Malaysian Relief Agency (MRA).

The United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR) will also be providing support.

According to the report, the project hopes to reduce the burden of the Malaysian healthcare system in the long run and to reinforce UNHCR services by bringing healthcare to refugees who, for some reasons, are unable to seek the care needed.

Reportedly, there are over 180,000 refugees and asylum seekers registered with the UNHCR in Kuala Lumpur, with many more remain unregistered.

With this special clinic, hopefully their medical needs are taken care of.
