It’s a dark day for the world today. This morning, we were greeted by the news of a possible terrorist attack at Ariana Grande’s concert which killed 19 people in Manchaster so far.

To top it all off, the motoring sports world also lost a talented soul today.

Nicky Hayden, 35, was involved in a car crash while cycling on the Riviera di Rimini in Italy last Wednesday as part of his training. The collision caused the car windscreen to shatter and Hayden suffered serious injuries as a result of the crash.

He was immediately rushed to the hospital and he reportedly sustained severe brain damage and was treated in the intensive care unit. He died on Monday evening.

The authorities are still investigating the incident.

A statement was issued by his team, Honda World Superbike team and also by the MotoGP team.

“It is with great sadness that Red Bull Honda World Superbike Team has to announce that Nicky Hayden has succumbed to injuries suffered during an incident while riding his bicycle last Wednesday,” his team said.

“Nicky passed away at 19:09 CEST this evening at Maurizio Bufalini Hospital in Cesena, Italy. His fiancée Jackie, mother Rose and brother Tommy were at his side.”

Motoring fans and the world mourned the death of the three-time MotoGP champion. The ‘Kentucky Kid’ will definitely be missed.
