The general elections are just around the corner as the contesting candidates were announced earlier this week. Love them or hate them, the incumbents will play an integral role in taking care of their own areas and constituents once elected.

Fortunately for voters, you can now learn more about the MPs in your area on an interactive site called MYMP.org.my.

MyMP is an initiative by the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights or MCCHR in 2016. The previous version listed all MPs and key data about each of them for the public interest.

This newer, quirkier and more colourful version was started in 2020 by a small team of volunteers - packed with cute 8-bit characters and an RPG-inspired stat tracking system based on their background information and past work.

The UI is very user-friendly, making the overall experience of getting to know your MPs become super easy. Once on the homepage, you can type out the MP you wish to check out. Let’s say you type out Maszlee Malik.

Here, you get to see all Maszlee’s ‘profile card’ complete with a rating system based on his accessibility, loyalty to his party, work ethic, transparency and win rate.

His background information including his age, education, gender and professional experience is a scroll away from the page above.

If you’re not sure who to check out, you can just pick an MP from their MP Of A Day section featuring the 8-bit avatar versions of themselves.

You can check the site yourself here.
