Guess What's The Most Popular Attraction At The International Rubber Glove Expo
The 9th International Rubber Glove Conference and Exhibtion (IRGCE 2018) is currently taking place in the city.
According to The Star, the three-day event is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors with exhibitors from 14 countries and 800 conference participants.
Malaysia is no doubt one of the world's largest rubber producers. In fact, rubber gloves made up 73.2 per cent of all rubber goods exports for the country last year.
Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was at the launch on Tuesday (4 September), said that the rubber industry has continuously developed a range of rubber products, including rubber tyres, surgical gloves, as well as earthquake dampers for buildings.
Having said that, do you want to know what was the most popular product at the first day of the exhibition yesterday?
Teh tarik condoms.
Ta-da! In case you didn't know, the biggest condom manufacturer in the world is a Malaysian company, Karex Bhd. After its very successful nasi lemak condoms released last year, and other intriguing editions like glow-in-the-dark, the teh tarik flavour just happen to be the latest addition to the rubber family.
And it was definitely a hit at the exhibition!
The brand new edition has not officially launched just yet, but all samples at the company's booth were grabbed almost instantly.
Do you think this will be more popular than the nasi lemak condom? Well, we're not surprised.
Even Tun M himself agreed that "the rubber performs a great duty to humanity" because without them, the world would have been so much more populated!
"Imagine the world without condom, our population could have been 10 billion instead of the current seven billion," he said.
So cheeky ah. As the world's largest exporter, Karex produces up to five million condoms every year from its factories in Malaysia and Thailand.
New Straits Times reported that the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council recorded RM436.80 million worth of condom exports last year.
So, keep it up, guys!
