As the number of daily active cases keep breaching the 6,000 mark for the past week or so, we believe we don't need to remind you just how dire the pandemic situation in the country is.
And to make matters worse, the Ministry of Health has just revealed that one strain of the virus, which is more infectious and more deadly, might have already found a home in Malaysia.
This concern was brought up by the Ministry of Healt in a Twitter post on Tuesday (1 June).
VOC are mutated variants of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
Currently, there are five that have been marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), and these variants are reportedly more infectious than the wild type SARS-CoV-2.
"The Health Ministry does not reject the possibility that there has already been a wider spread of at least one variant of concern within the communities of all Malaysian states.
"Considering that VOCs have been found to have a higher infectivity rate, all individuals must take the situation seriously," the ministry said in the Twitter post.
According to another tweet by the Ministry of Health, the authorities have detected all of these variants in Malaysia.
There were a total of 89 cases of the South Africa B.1.351 detected in the country, nine cases linked to the UK B.1.1.7 variant and six cases with the India B.1.617.
The Phillippine P.3 and the Nigeria B.1.525 variants saw a number of 12 and three cases respectively.
With the high number of cases as well as the more dangerous variants of the coronavirus circling around us, it's better to stay at home for now, you guys.
