The delivery guy arrives, and when he takes off his helmet, he is none other than the big boss of one of Asia's leading airlines.
Yup, that may very well happen to you.
Tony's new role
Malay Mail reported that lowcost airline AirAsia has enlisted the help of group chief executive officer Tan Sri Tony Fernandes to personally deliver food to customers who place orders through their food app.
AirAsia Food was first launched in May to support local enterprises businesses during the COVID-19 pandemic, and it now has more than 200 merchants plying their trade on the platform.
The 56-year-old entrepreneur recently teased his social media followers when he posted several photos of him standing next to an AirAsia delivery bike with a helmet in hand.
“Getting ready to make food deliveries to your house,” he wrote in the post.
The post, which has since garnered more than 17,600 likes on Instagram, had his followers excited, with many wondering if it was just a marketing gimmick and if Fernandes would really be personally delivering their food to them on a kapcai.
The answer to that question is yes, according to AirAsia food head Sabrina Khaw.
She confirmed that Fernandes will indeed be delivering food to customers from 1 to 25 December.
“Tony has been very supportive of our food business and is really one to be hands-on," she was quoted as saying.
In fact, Fernandes is so serious about his new role, Khaw revealed that he's been working on getting his motorbike licence so that he can start delivering for AirAsia Food.
