Some married couples may be desperately trying to have a baby but have fertility issues and unfortunately are unable to afford in vitro fertilisation (IVF). During the IVF process, an egg is removed from the woman's ovaries and fertilised with sperm in a laboratory. The fertilised egg, called an embryo, is then returned to the woman's womb to grow and develop. This procedure can cost around RM14k-RM16k, a hefty price for those in the B40 category.

As reported by Sirap Limau, Metro IVF Fertility Centre at Setiawalk, Puchong is offering procedures under the IVF Rahmah Rakyat initiatives for aspiring parents.  As part of the Payung Rahmah Belanjawan 2024 initiative, the IVF Rahmah Rakyat package has an RM1 million allocation for the B40 income category.

This allocation will be distributed to 280 couples to receive IVF treatments at a heavily subsidised price of RM7500. The icing on the cake is that the Fertility Centre boasts high success rates.

What To Know

Around 17.5% of the adult population, or one in six people have fertility issues. The optimum age for this treatment is between 23 to 42 years of age. Amongst the factors for IVF treatment failure include the age of women, embryo quality, ovarian response, implantation issues, having an unhealthy lifestyle, and chromosomal abnormalities.
