Every weekend, it turns into a bustling hub as a flea market takes part here that helps to support small businesses selling items like homemade ginger beer and vintage cameras.
A vibrant atmosphere usually fills the place with local buskers and performers taking the stage. Come this 9 July 2022, however, something entirely different will be held here: the Space Out and Race it all Out Competition (Pertandingan Tanpa Buat Apa-Apa)!
It is part of that host of the activities that are listed for the annual Georgetown Festival that will take place this year from 9-24 July 2022.
The International Space Out Competition was first held in South Korea by artist Woopsyang in 2014 and has spread to Hong Kong, Beijing, and Taipei, but this is the first of its kind that we’ve heard of in the country.
Hin Market is offering an exciting prize for the victor. Besides earning bragging rights (?), the winner will walk away with a 2 Days 1 Night stay for two at one of Penang’s newest hotels: the 5-star Angsana Hotel. The rules weren’t listed in their post but the rules for prior competitions were simple: maintain a blank face for an hour and the individual receiving the most votes and the one having the most stable heartbeat wins.
It takes only RM5 to join this incredibly easy competition. Wah, we also want! Unfortunately, as of time of writing, the registration for the Space Out Competition has already been closed less than 24 hours after being launched.
Macam-macam ada. It will be interesting to see how this plays out—or rather, laze out.
