According to BERNAMA, JPJ Director-General Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramly stated that the exact date of enforcement has yet to be announced.
JPJ’s current focus is on conducting advocacy programmes to promote seatbelt usage, including the launch of a campaign titled ‘Klik Sebelum Gerak’.
The campaign aims to cultivate a stronger road safety culture and emphasise the importance of seatbelt use for all vehicle occupants.

Individuals found not wearing seatbelts may face fines of up to RM300 under the Motor Vehicles (Seatbelt and Child Restraint System) Rules 1978 (Amendment 2019).
“In line with this campaign, we will announce the enforcement of seatbelt use for passengers in private cars at a later date,” he said.
Meanwhile, back in July 2025, seatbelt enforcement had already been implemented for drivers and passengers of express and tour buses.
