Back in May, Malaysians received a very heart-breaking news when one of the last three Sumatran rhinos, Puntung, was forced to be euthanised due to its deteriorating health. Puntung, one of the two remaining female rhinos, was diagnosed with squamous cell cancer, a form of skin cancer.

Now, unfortunately, the Sabah Wildlife Department has disclosed that the last female Sumatran rhino, Iman, is suffering from uterine leiomyoma tumor which has been bleeding for the past few days.

Sabah Wildlife Department director Augustine Tuuga told The Star that Iman’s condition can usually be treated with some medication and supplements. The rhino, unfortunately, refuses to leave her mud and hasn’t been eating, which is making her condition even worse.

Iman when she was in a better health condition.
Effors to treat her were also futile as she would also charge at anyone who approaches her.

“It is believed that one of the larger tumor might have ruptured and is causing pain and bleeding,” Tuuga said.

The poor rhino must be in so much pain, which is why she refuses to move *insert crying emoji*.

"Both the Borneo Rhino Alliance veterinarians are constantly monitoring Iman along with the keepers. We are hoping for the best and will keep the public informed," he added.

Let’s pray and hope that Iman recovers soon and will get the treatment she deserves. Bear in mind she is the LAST surviving female Sumatran rhino in Malaysia. Their status has been certified as critically endangered by the WWF.
