Anyway, recently the government said that the Movement Control Order (MCO) which ends on 5 March, would be replaced with the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO).
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the CMCO would take effect for 14 days - from 5 March to 18 March.
The most significant difference under the latest CMCO is that people would be allowed to cross districts.
Crossing state borders, however, is still prohibited - so most of us still can't balik kampung and see our parents lah.
Business travellers to be allowed to fly in
As for business travellers, they will soon be able to fly in to Malaysia.This is where we're slightly confused (and sedikit annoyed).
Crossing state borders is not allowed, but travellers from outside the country boleh.
Emmmmmmmmm...ok then.
A report by Malay Mail said that a statement was issued by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) on the matter.
“Both short and long-term business travellers may apply for entry permission to enter the country via Malaysia’s Safe Travel portal, which is a part of the One Stop Centre (OSC) initiative,” said MIDA.
The statement also said that short-term business travellers may be exempted from the mandatory quarantine period but this will depend on approval from the OSC Committee.
Short-term business travellers are defined as those who do not have passes and plan to stay in the country for 14 days or less.
Short-term business travellers include potential investors seeking to do business in the country, existing investors such as business owners, board members, executives and associates of companies in Malaysia who do not have Employment Passes, business customers for product qualification and validation before commercial production, and technical experts for ad-hoc emergency cases to serve single or multiple customers across Malaysia.
Relaxing regulations for the economy?
The statement also said that business travellers may also apply for a Social Visit Pass if they plan to stay longer than 14 days.
The good thing is that all business travellers will be subject to strict SOP.
Hopefully there are no double standards with this group lah.
We're ok as long as everyone is treated fairly and safety procedures are not laxed at the expense of setting off another spike in COVID-19 cases.
Yes, the country needs business/money but we also don't need COVID-19 numbers to be going up again.
