So last week, we got word that Malaysia was one of the 21 teams that qualified for the World Pastry Cup this year.

A team of local pastry chefs represented the country at the 2019 Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie, that's French for World Pastry Cup, held from 27 to 28 January in Lyon, France.

Now, we just received the sweetest news because our fellow countrymen won the international pastry competition!

The team is led by coach Patrick Siau and chefs Tan Wei Loon, Otto Tay and Loi Ming Ai.

Sweet one!
They successfully beat contenders from Japan and Italy in the final leg of the competition, which was held on Monday (28 January), as reported by The Star.

The contest that is held once every two years aims to shine the spotlight on some of the best young pastry talents from around the world.

The theme for this year is a unique one, especially when you talk about French dessert.

Contestants had to challenge themselves to produce a rich dessert without using any animal product at all, 100 per cent vegan for the first time in the history of the competition!

Here are the vegan desserts:

In addition to that, the teams also had to make three chocolate desserts, three frozen fruit desserts, 15 identical desserts on plate, and sculptures made of sugar, chocolate and ice.

Just look at these beautiful chocolate-y goodness.

Can you imagine making all that without using any butter, cream or egg? Well, for amateurs like us, that's almost unthinkable.

But Team Malaysia came out on top in the 30th edition of the World Pastry Cup!

Congratulations, guys! Now, can you please send some of that dessert to us?
