The Malaysian government previously announced that the new and enhanced MyKad is expected to be launched this month.
The new identification card is said to feature upgraded security elements, such as a QR code for digital verification, and will be issued in phases, beginning at the registration headquarters in Putrajaya and 18 selected registration offices.

However, the start date for the issuance and replacement of the new MyKad will only be announced after Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim officially launches the card.
In a report by FMT, some Malaysians may be prioritised for the new MyKad if they hold any of the following three outdated identification cards:
- Plastic Identity Card / Kad Pengenalan Plastik (KPP)
- High-grade Identity Card / Kad Pengenalan Bermutu Tinggi (KPT)
- MyKad Version 1, which lacks a laser-engraved ghost image
Additionally, priority is also expected to be given to those who apply via the appointment system.

The National Registration Department (JPN) said that individuals holding these outdated MyKads are required to replace their identification cards within the next three years.
Previously, Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that there is no requirement for MyKad holders to immediately replace their cards when the new version is introduced, as long as their existing MyKad remains in good condition.
