In his caption, he urged others to be mindful of the portions they take to avoid wastage. He also wrote that those who arrived later couldn’t get any food.
“To those who come for iftar, moreh or sahur at Shah Alam mosque, please don’t behave like this. You take so much food, but when you can’t finish it, you just throw it away without any guilt. It’s sad to see that others couldn’t get any food and had to drink water only.”
Netizens were disappointed
In the comments section, many Malaysians voiced their disappointment over the wastage.
One user pointed out that food wastage during Ramadan is actually among the highest. Another suggested that the mosque committee should follow the practice in Makkah, where worshippers sit and wait for committee members or volunteers to distribute food instead of allowing people to take it themselves.
“This is the mentality of a greedy person who wants to take everything since it’s free. This happens at mosques everywhere.”

Another user shared, “Last year, I visited the Jeram landfill and found out that during Ramadan, the amount of food waste increases each year. They get an extra two tonnes of waste per day (mostly food waste) for the entire month of Ramadan.
"This is only one of many landfills in Selangor. What about other states? This is so sad. Please be mindful when taking or buying food.”
