M’sians Slam High Schoolers for Complaining About Missing Out on BUDI95 Because They Don’t Have a Driving Licence

While the targeted BUDI95 fuel subsidy has been undeniably helpful to many Malaysians, some secondary school students appear to be unhappy about it.

In a post on Threads, a Malaysian teacher shared that many of his students were complaining about being ineligible for the subsidy and having to pay the full price of RON95 fuel at RM2.60 per litre.

The main reason for their ineligibility is that most of them do not possess a valid driving licence.

According to the teacher, while many students grumbled about the extra cost of fuel, they had already spent hundreds of ringgit modifying their motorcycles.

“They have spent hundreds of ringgit modifying their motorcycles, but cannot afford to pay for fuel. Imagine losing more than RM2 every time they refill their motorbike without BUDI95.”

"Serves them right"

The post has since caught the attention of local social media users, many of whom believe this should serve as a lesson, not to drive without a valid licence.

Some even joked that the fuel price should be raised to RM5 per litre for those riding without one.

“Please continue the BUDI95. It’s not about the price of fuel, but about encouraging Malaysians to get their driving licence.”

“They don’t have money to fuel their motorbikes, but have the money to modify them and go on long rides,” commented another user.

One teacher also weighed in with a sobering perspective.

“As a school teacher who visited my late Form 3 student who died from severe head injuries after his motorcycle skidded, and another Form 4 student who died in an illegal race, and others who broke bones in motorbike accidents—I agree that these students should keep paying the full RM2.60 for fuel.”
