COVID-19 numbers are rising drastically in Malaysia and we've got the figures to prove it.

Yesterday (20 May), we broke two records at one go.

One for the highest number of new COVID-19 cases ever recorded and the second for the highest number of deaths.

According to a report by The Star, health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Malaysia logged 6,806 new COVID-19 infections on Thursday (20 May) alone.

A total of 59 people died on 20 May.

14 deaths were recorded in Johor; 10 in Selangor; eight in Kuala Lumpur; six in Kelantan; four deaths each in Negeri Sembilan and Melaka; three deaths each in Kedah, Perak and Terengganu; two deaths in Sarawak and one death each in Sabah and Penang.

The youngest victim was a 37-year-old man who died at the Hospital Sultan Ismail in Johor Baru while the oldest victim was a 91-year-old man who died at the Sarawak General Hospital.

The data released by the Ministry of Health also showed that 587 people are in Intensive Care Units around the country with 330 of them needing ventilator support as well.

There are also 50,171 active cases at the moment.
