Considering that the Orang Asli are the original people of this country, it's unfathomable that their rights are often trampled on for the profits of some.

For the past few years, many Orang Asli villages have been fighting to keep their lands untouched by loggers and developers, forming barricades and fighting through various channels.

The Movement Control Order (MCO) period gave the villagers a reprive but it looks like loggers are back at it.

Bulldozers were seen at two villages

The Centre for Orang Asli Concerns (COAC), in a Facebook post, shared that loggers have been spotted at Kampung Sungai Papan, Gerik-Perak and Kampung Kelaik, Pos Brook in Kelantan.

Last year, the Temiar community had set up barriers to stop logging activities in Kampung Sungai Papan and three of them were arrested for it.

Initially, actions were taken against the people who eracted the blocakade, as the loggers had been given permission by the state government.

However, Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu called a temporary halt to the logging activities following the uproar created by the arrests.

"Clearly, as far as the Chief Minister was concerned, this was meant to be only a temporary reprieve for the Orang Asli," COAC said in the post.


In Gua Musang, bulldozers were also seen and asked to leave by the villagers. It is believed that lands are to be cleared by durian farmers.
