Malaysian cyclist Azizulhasni Awang was given the fitting nickname ‘Pocket Rocketman’ for a good reason – he’s small but he’s fast as lightning.

And recently, he lived up to his nickname at the 2020 Asian Track Cycling Championships (ACC) in South Korea.

The Terengganu native was crowned the Asian King of Sprint after bagging the men's individual sprint gold medal, defeating Japan’s Yuta Wakimoto 2-1.

The win is also Azizulhanis’s 10th Asian championship win of his career.

Congratulations and thank you for putting us on the map again!
Besides clinching the gold medal, the sprinter also secured a silver medal in the men's individual keirin category.

“I didn’t want to surrender my title after missing on a good chance in the keirin,” Azizulhasni told The Star.

“I could have won the keirin but I crashed in the first round and had to race the repechage with bruises and a torn skinsuit. It affected my confidence and momentum a bit.”

“I’m all drained but it’s worth it in the end. It’s about managing my stress and emotions throughout the week, so winning this 10th Asian title means a lot to me.”

Congratulations on the well-deserved win! Who knows, perhaps he’ll bring home our first Olympic gold medal in 2020.
