Over the years, we've seen international as well as local magazines closing down to give way to digital alternatives.

Sadly, one of the more beloved 'magazines' will soon be following the same fate.

An emotional but necessary move

Everybody's favourite furniture company IKEA is reportedly set to stop printing its catalogue to give way to digital alternatives.

AFP reported that the decision came after the company finds the printing of the catalogue non-sustainable as fewer people were reading the printed catalogue as they move more towards online shopping.

Konrad Gruss, Managing Director at Inter Ikea Systems, said in a statement that putting an end to the catalogue was a hard decision to make, but a necessary one.

"For 70 years it has been one of our most unique and iconic products.

"Turning the page with our beloved catalogue is emotional but rational," he was quoted as saying.

It's sad to see you go.
The catalogue was first put together by the founder of IKEA, Ingvar Kamprad, back in 1951, when 285,000 copies were printed and distributed around the southern part of Sweden where the company was also started.

At its peak in 2016, 200 million copies of the catalogue, printed in 32 different languages, were distributed worldwide.

Oh, in case you're wondering, the last copy of the catalogue was the 2021 version that is now available at all IKEA stores, so remember to pick up a copy when you're there, you know, for old time's sake.
