Malaysians immediately reacted to the news by feeling queasy, angry, and upset. The restaurant incurred the wrath of its customers and also law enforcers.
They tried fixing the situation by blaming their new and inexperience staff members and also offered a free all-you-can-eat day, but the restaurant got shut down before the event could take place.
No official word on when the eatery will be re-opened, but it seems like the shutters will stay down forever.
On Wednesday, Kuala Lumpur mayor Tan Sri Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz is urging for Raj’s Banana Leaf’s license to be revoked.
He wants the restaurant to be shut down for good in order to send a strong message to other eateries in Kuala Lumpur.
“I want to send a strong message to everyone that this is unacceptable. We have been too kind, and that’s why we have all these bad practices. This type of news is giving the city a bad name,” he told The Star.
DBKL’s Health and Environment Department is also in support of the decision to revoke the license in the event that it is approved.
The decision whether to revoke the license or lift the temporary suspension will be deliberated by the DBKL License Committee. The outcome will also depend on Raj’s Banana Leaf’s proprietors answer based on the show-cause letter issued by DBKL.
