A family of five narrowly escaped a house fire in Kampung Solok Wan Moh, Batu Pahat, thanks to the unexpected actions of a cat.
As reported by Harian Metro, one of the victims, Muhammad Norsham Bibin, 31, said that at the time of the incident, he and his wife, Widyawati Niban, 40, were at home with three of their children, who were sleeping in their room.

According to him, a cat that frequently roamed the neighbourhood had entered their home and stolen a fish. Strangely, the feline did not eat the fish and instead left it outside the house.
Initially, Norsham said he did not think much of it and went out to retrieve the fish. That was when he noticed smoke coming from a neighbouring house.
“I was touched. Usually, the cat would come over, but it never touched any food we left on the table. But that day, the cat ran away with a fish as if to warn me about the fire next door. I quickly told my wife about the fire, and we evacuated with our children.”

Although the fire completely destroyed his home, including a Proton Iswara Aeroback, his children’s bicycles, and school supplies, Norsham was grateful for the cat’s actions, which had saved his family’s lives.
Meanwhile, another victim of the fire, Mohd Razib Ibrahim, 37, said he was informed that his house had caught fire about 10 minutes after he had left for work.

Razib, who had lived in the village for 23 years, was left with nothing as the fire had grown too intense by the time he returned home.
“My wife and I couldn’t save anything. We’re left only with the clothes we wore to work."
He added, “There was an electrical disturbance the night before, but it was resolved. I didn’t expect it to end up this way.”
It is understood that the fire involved five houses, four of which were completely destroyed. Investigations into the cause of the fire and the total losses are ongoing.
