Uncle Roger to Open Third Restaurant Despite Mixed Reactions to Pavilion Outlet
‘Fuiyoh It’s Uncle Roger,’ by the famous internet personality, has arguably been the most hyped-about restaurant in town since it opened its doors in September. The outlet in Pavilion Elite in Bukit Bintang received streams of visitors entering its doors, including IShowSpeed and crazy queues. It also received a lot of backlash for the high price of the ‘egg fly lice’ and its ironically disappointing taste despite Uncle Roger’s usually high standards for the dish.
However, the negative comments haven’t deterred Nigel Ng (Uncle Roger’s real name) from opening more outlets. IPC Shopping Centre in PJ has announced that Uncle Roger’s restaurant will open in the mall. The backdrop read, ‘Haiyaa…good things take time. Wait long, long. Coming November 2024’.
A third restaurant is apparently in the works. It will open at MyTown Cheras, with the background reading ‘Coming December 2024.’

Malaysians take on the restaurant

Despite all the hype, many Malaysians were unsatisfied with their experience at the restaurant.
Popular food reviewer Jason, or @scaredtodie, chimed in on his take on the restaurant. He waited 35 minutes to enter and said Uncle Roger’s iced lemon tea wasn’t worth the RM 10.90 price because it was made of 50% ice and tasted like any bottled drink.
He also tried the RM34 egg fried rice with garlic shrimp, which he dubbed “Mahal nak mampus,” or crazily expensive and said, “It’s missing the wok hei and I will categorise it as any Chinese restaurant’s fried rice.”
He stated that the prawn was overly mushy and had no garlic taste. He said that despite people arguing that the price of Pavilion’s rent justified the expensive prices, “As a consumer if you pay two to three times the price, you shouldn’t care about how much rent they pay. You should expect that this should taste two to three times better.”

Another influencer, @MyAsianKitchen, took to Instagram to complain about the restaurant’s opening. “You know the famous saying - I’ve tried it so you don’t have to? This is exactly it. The entire event was a sh*t show. How do you let your invited paying guests wait more than two hours for fried rice?! We tried 2 types of fried rice, and both were MSG and salt-loaded. Greasy and clumpy. I don’t know how you can have a tagline that says ‘best-fried rice’ when any roadside stall or mamak can do a better job. The okra fries were soggy, and portion sizes were so inconsistent.”
They ranted, “As an owner, he didn’t even have the courtesy to come around each table to either greet or apologise for the utter disaster that you put everyone through. I understand every restaurant opening can be chaotic but this is just another level.”
X user @izadsyah also posted an honest review, stating that the cons included the problematic ordering system, the rice being on the saltier side and a tad oily, and the fact that they wouldn’t return voluntarily.
Meanwhile, he sarcastically said that the restaurant's pros are that now people “will be able to distinguish (between) certain ‘foodie reviewers’ between being truthful and paid lying c**ts." He also complained that you cannot order one rice and two sides; if you want to order an additional side, you have to order an additional plate of rice.
According to Izad, the worst thing was that they removed all Google reviews (not just his) and left a few 5-star reviews up, which were posted before the restaurant was even opened.
Meanwhile, we also reviewed the Pavilion outlet which you can read all about here.
