TLDR

  • A Malaysian influencer, Pudds, went viral after sharing her shock over a RM381 parking bill after parking at the KLIA Long-Term Car Park for 12 days based on a promotion she believed was still valid.
  • Malaysia Airports clarified that the promotion had ended on 24 February, but confusion arose when it was still being advertised on 4 March before being deleted.
  • Pudds rejected an invitation for a private meeting with MAHB, instead demanding a public explanation, and has since lodged a formal complaint with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

A Malaysian social media influencer went viral after sharing her reaction to a parking charge at Kuala Lumpur International Airport’s (KLIA) Long-Term Car Park (LTCP).

In a video, the influencer, known as Pudds, shared that she had parked at the LTCP for 12 days. However, upon returning from a holiday, she was shocked to find that her parking bill amounted to RM381.

According to her, she had parked there after believing a parking rate promotion she had seen online. The promo stated that parking for one day would cost RM27, while the second and third days would be charged at RM17 and RM9 respectively, with a different rate applied from day four onwards.

Pudds mentioned that, based on the promo, the total for 12 days of parking would have cost her only RM142. However, she later learned from staff that these rates now apply only to advance online bookings. Additionally, the staff mentioned that the new pricing had actually commenced on 1 May.

Pudds added that she didn’t see any social media posts on 1 May about the price change, only a post about Labour Day.

It is understood that the new pricing has been revised to an hourly rate capped at RM32 per day.

More confusion arises

After her video went viral, Malaysia Airports commented on it and clarified that the promotional price Pudds was referring to had actually ended on 24 February.

They also said that the current standard parking rate remains the same as the pre-promotion rate. Nevertheless, Malaysia Airports acknowledged the confusion and admitted that there is a need for clearer communication regarding car park pricing.

The situation, however, took another confusing turn after Pudds shared in a follow-up video that the original promo post she had seen was actually published on 4 March, raising further concerns about why the promotion was still being advertised despite having ended in February. The 4 March post has since been deleted.

MAHB asked for a private meeting

On 19 May, Pudds shared another post on Instagram, saying that Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) had privately responded to her second video, requesting to meet her personally to clear the air.

Pudds replied that she had rejected the offer, stating that the issue should be addressed publicly.

“I will not participate in private discussions or phone calls where there is no public paper trail. This issue started publicly, impacted the public, and will be addressed publicly."

"What I demand is full transparency. Issue a clear public statement explaining why an ‘expired February promotion’ was still actively advertised on Facebook on 4 March,” she said.

At the end of her post, Pudds shared that she had submitted a formal complaint to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN). She also urged the public not to let the matter slide.

“If a major corporation can discreetly raise prices without a formal announcement and get away with it, it sets a terrible precedent for consumer rights in Malaysia. I hope we can all collectively force MAHB to give the Malaysian public the transparency we deserve.”
