We already know that our frontliners have been doing a fantastic job when it comes to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, but the latest numbers released by the Health Ministry reiterates just how well they have been doing.
Malaysia's recovery rate as of 18 June is at 93.8%, according to a statement by health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
That's 8,000 out of 8,529 cases in the country.
The death rate of COVID-19 patients in the country is also quite low, at 1.42 percent.

We still can't take things for granted

There are active cases still Despite the high recovery rate and low death rates, we're not completely clear of danger.
Among those who have been tested positive, 480 are still infectious, although they are receiving treatment and are isolated.
New cases are still being detected, with 14 new cases reported on 18 June.
The new cases include three imported cases and 11 locally transmitted cases.
Three of those cases involves close contact with housemates and family members, while others were detected when mandatory tests were done for various reasons.
"So far there are four cases that are being treated in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). There are no cases on ventilator support," Dr Noor Hisham said in the statement.

Continue being vigilant

Let's not get complacent The public is advised to continue to stay vigilant and follow the guidelines that has been shared by the health ministry.
Avoid the 3Cs i.e. crowded places, confined spaces and having close conversations.
Make sure there is at least a one metre distance between you and others if you can't avoid these situations.
Practice the 3Ws i.e. washing your hands, wearing your masks and adhering to warnings such as staying home, coughing or sneezing into your elbows, getting checked if you're sick and others.
