A 26-year-old Malaysian man has reportedly been placed under the Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGT) list by the United States Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) for ties with the Islamic State.

Muhammad Wanndy Mohamed Jedi is an ISIS leader in Syria who has allegedly been recruiting members and sourcing funds for the militant group.

Waandy ridiculed the sanction on his Facebook profile.According to the New Straits Times, he is now a high-profile target for law enforcement agencies around the world along with the most notorious terrorists in the world.

Wanndy’s Indonesian comrade, Muhammad Bahrun Naik Anggih Tamtomo, has also reportedly received the same sanction.

The SDGT list includes individuals who have committed or pose significant risks of committing acts of terrorism, or provided support to terror groups designated under OFAC Counter Terrorism Sanctions programmes.

Both Wanndy and Bahrun have reportedly been involved in funding and giving operational support for ISIS in their respective countries as well as in Syria.

They were among seven others who were recently added to the list.

The local ISIS recruiter is also on Bukit Aman’s wanted list for coordinating and providing support terror attacks in Malaysia.

Remember the Movida nightclub terrorist attack which happened in Puchong last June?

Wanndy was the mastermind behind it.

Despite the sanction, Wanndy - also known as Abu Hamzah al-Fateh on Facebook - reportedly mocked the news on his profile and said that it would only make him more cautious about his movements and communications.

Other Malaysians who are also in the wanted list include Yazid Sufaat and Zulkifli Hir.

Yazid Sufaat
Yazid Sufaat, also known as Yazud bin Sufaat or Yazid Shufaat, was a member of extremist Islamist terrorist organisation Jemaah Islamiyah from 1993 until his arrest in 2001.

He specialised in developing anthrax as a weapon of bio-terrorism on behalf of the terror group al-Qaeda.

In 2003, Yazid was embargoed by the United Nations Security Council Committee 1267 as an affiliate of al-Qaeda and the Taliban.

He was once again detained on terrorist charges in Malaysia under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act in early 2013.

Zulkifli Hir
Zulkifli Hir, also known as Zulkifli Abdhir, was one of the FBI’s ‘Most Wanted Terrorists’. He allegedly made explosives for terrorist groups.

He was also suspected of being a leader of the Kumpulan Mujahidin Malaysia, which was part of Jemaah Islamiyah’s central command.

Zulkifli went into hiding in Mindanao under the protection of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

He was later killed by Special Action Force (SAF) officers in the Philippines in 2015 during a raid.
