As Merdeka season rolls in, Inside Scoop is back with a delicious tribute to Malaysia’s rich cultural makeup and this time, it’s bigger, bolder, and even more nostalgic. 

The beloved homegrown ice cream brand recently unveiled its second edition of the Lokal Legends collection, featuring six limited-edition flavours co-created with iconic Malaysian brands that many of us grew up with.

From the comforting taste of Gardenia’s Twiggies to the cinematic crunch of GSC’s caramel popcorn, each scoop is a celebration of the flavours that define our childhoods.

A taste of Malaysia, one scoop at a time

Here’s what you can expect from this year’s Lokal Legends lineup:

• Gardenia’s Twiggies Choc-A-Lot: Think creamy milk chocolate ice cream studded with chunks of the classic Twiggies. It’s a bite of childhood, frozen in time.
• GSC’s Caramel Popcorn: A swirl of salted caramel and buttered pecans in popcorn ice cream, perfect for those who miss the golden scent of cinema snacks and cozy movie nights.
• Julie’s Le-mond Lemon: Zesty lemon ice cream meets the tangy crunch of Julie’s Le-mond crackers, with a citrus curd ripple that’s pure sunshine in a scoop.
• Beryl’s Gula Melaka Chocolate: Rich, indulgent, and unmistakably Malaysian. This flavour blends Beryl’s chocolate with gula melaka and buttery crumble for a decadent twist on tradition.
• ZUS Coffee’s Spanish Latté: Inspired by ZUS Coffee’s signature drink, this espresso-infused milk ice cream is layered with chocolate-coated cones — a modern take on a kopitiam classic.
• Farm Fresh’s Choco Malt Kaw: A deeper, fudgier version of last year’s hit, this flavour amps up the nostalgia with crunchy choco malt soil and Farm Fresh’s signature Choco Malt.

More than just ice cream

Inside Scoop’s Co-Founder Edmund Tan calls this year’s collection “a love letter to Malaysia,” and it’s easy to see why. Each flavour is handcrafted locally, and every scoop tells a story of childhood memories, weekend rituals, and the brands that have become part of our everyday lives.

Even the packaging gets a patriotic upgrade: each scoop comes in a custom-designed cup sleeve featuring the collaborating brand’s colours and the Lokal Legends mark. It’s a small but thoughtful touch that makes this Merdeka celebration feel even more special.

Out of the six, our personal favourites included Gardenia’s Twiggies Choc-A-Lot, Julie’s Le-mond Lemon, and GSC’s Caramel Popcorn — each one striking the perfect balance between nostalgia and taste. Twiggies Choc-A-Lot delivers rich chocolate comfort with a familiar chewy bite, Julie’s Le-mond Lemon is refreshingly tangy with a citrusy twist, while GSC’s Caramel Popcorn captures the essence of movie night in a creamy, indulgent scoop.

The Lokal Legends 2025 collection is available at all Inside Scoop outlets nationwide from 18 August to 21 September 2025. You can enjoy the flavours individually or grab the Lokal Legends Party Pack (RM68) — a curated box of all six flavours, perfect for sharing or indulging solo.
