TLDR

  • A woman believed to be a foreign national was seen hanging more than 10 pieces of clothing on road railings in the Pasar Jawa area of Klang, sparking outrage among netizens.
  • Social media users urged the authorities to take action, as incidents like this are considered disruptive and inappropriate in public spaces.
  • The Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) announced that it will monitor the area regularly following increased attention on the location after LRT3 began operations.

Now and then, we come across something in public that makes us stop and think, "Surely that's not the right place for that." While unusual sights can sometimes be harmless, others end up sparking debate over what is and isn't appropriate in shared spaces.

Recently, a post went viral depicting a woman, believed to be a foreign national, casually drying her clothes on road railings along a public walkway.

According to the user, he witnessed the incident while walking around Pasar Jawa in Klang. Based on the photo attached, the woman could be seen hanging more than 10 pieces of clothing on the railing, including long pants and T-shirts, as cars passed by.

"I hate those foreigners who act like this is their country. I was walking around Pasar Jawa and saw this woman casually drying her clothes by the roadside. What an eyesore!" he wrote.

It is understood that the user confronted the woman over her actions, but it proved ineffective as she allegedly reacted angrily in her own language.

Netizens outraged

Needless to say, social media users were unhappy with the sight. Some called on the local authorities to take immediate action, while others shared their own experiences encountering similar issues.

"Did she think the railings were her personal drying rack? What kind of mentality do these foreigners have that allows them to do things like this in another country?"

One user shared, "Something similar happened in my housing area. The railings were used as personal bicycle parking spaces. Such an eyesore! Thankfully, it's all gone now; perhaps the authorities stepped in."

"For those who are brave enough, please do something. There are so many foreigners in this area, and they cannot be reprimanded. I once confronted a foreigner who was hanging underwear and clothes, and they threatened to beat me with a pail. There weren't many locals around at the time, so even if I had asked for help, no one would have come," commented another.

MBDK has since issued a statement

Following the viral incident, the Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) stated that it will monitor the area periodically.

The statement also said that monitoring would be carried out because the area is now receiving greater attention following the commencement of LRT3 operations.

"All parties need to be sensitive in maintaining the cleanliness and well-being of the Royal City of Klang."
