Parent‑Teacher Association (PIBG) contributions have long existed in many schools.

Although they are referred to as “donations” or “contributions”, parents are strongly encouraged to pay the fees, as they are typically used to support school activities and improve school infrastructure.

However, a woman sparked heated online discussion after sharing her opinion that PIBG fees should not be paid by parents who cannot afford them.

On top of that, she also proudly claimed that she had not paid PIBG fees for years.

“Sorry to say… PIBG fees are just donations. You don’t have to pay them if you can’t afford to. I haven’t paid mine in years. Don’t make it a burden on your family."

She added, "The school cannot force us to pay, as we can report them if they do because it’s just a donation. Teachers should make an effort to find funding for the school, and it shouldn’t be the parents’ job to do so.”

Needless to say, other social media users, especially parents, were unhappy with her statement. Some also pointed out that PIBG fees directly benefit students, and that insufficient funding could negatively affect their learning experience.

“You want your child to learn in a comfortable environment, but you’re too stingy to contribute to that.”

“This kind of parent should attend PIBG meetings, or even hold a position in the association. Only then will they realise why PIBG is important. If you don’t understand something, you should try to learn about it instead of spreading misinformation. That’s what I did when my child started school,” said a user.
