Whenever the topic of Penang comes up, there can be only a few things that come to mind.

Beside the glorious plethora of food, the Pearl of the Orient is also well-known for its Insta-worthy beautiful street art scattered all over the island.

And if you’re getting bored of seeing the same ol’ street art, fret not, because the Penang International Container Art Festival is currently in full swing!

Happening from December 2019 to May 2020, there will be five new art installations ready for the cameras soon.

You can find them at Prangin Mall in George Town, Karpal Singh Drive in Jelutong, Kampung Terang in Balik Pulau, Dataran Pemuda Merdeka in Butterworth, and Aspen Vision City in Batu Kawan.

Festival director Tan Chor Whye told The Star that besides the completed installation at Prangin Mall, the other murals – each measuring about 10m high - are currently still in progress.

All of the artwork will be completed by seven Malaysian artists and five of their counterparts from Russia, Canada, the Netherlands and Ukraine.

Sounds exciting! Maybe it’s time to plan another road trip to the northwest coast guys?

If you want to hunt for all five, then we’d suggest coming after May so that you can make that trip worthwhile.
