It’s 2019, welcome to a world of trendsetting EVERY. SINGLE. THING. Be it food, lifestyle, music and even marriage. Yes, you heard it right. Getting married is becoming a trend due to peer pressure, either the need to do it by a certain age, the wedding preparations, family’s wishes and so many other reasons. However, a small percentage of marriage goes down the drain, ending in divorce. And many divorcees are still at a young age. What could be the reason? Why get married just to get divorce?
It’s possible that the society we live in conforms to a collective set of values, meaning we adhere to certain traditions, cultural inclinations and social conventions when it comes to marriage. Divorce are an exception in the society. A divorcee is basically a social pariah to some. On the other hand, the society in America looks at divorce and culture as two different entity, rarely associated. Unlike the East Asian part of the globe. Which is also why we have the phrase “Asian parents be like…”. You know the drill.
Here’s a couple of stories to feast your eyes:
Bella Astillah (+ Alif Aziz)
Their divorce was announced on 16th May 2019, at the lower Syariah court. And now she holds the title, young divorcee, being only 25 years old. After the backlashes against her ex-husband, Bella had enough of such disgrace. On 23rd June, she created a post to explain her situation with Aliff Aziz and requested all keyboard warriors to stop criticising and condemning Aliff. Honestly, what went on in the past, stays there. Bella Astillah is such a strong mama going through a lot at a young age. So kudos to her!
Bella Dally (+ Nazim Othman)
They were the ‘It’ couple in the entertainment industry, flaunting the red carpet with their couples vibe and charming looks with so many eyes watching their every move. Being in the spotlight was difficult for any artists and it seems that it has affected this couple tremendously. These two call it quits sometime in May 2018, when Nazim posted on his Instagram stating they are no longer a married couple. Bella was only 26 years old then, making her also a young divorcee. Although Bella nor Nazim mentioned the reason behind their divorce, we sure hope it was a mutual agreement and understanding as both of them are definitely living their own lives now. Some things have to fall apart for it to fall into place, yes?
It really does not matter if we are divorced at a young age. What matters is that both parties have mutual respect for the decision without further arguments and discomfort. If we are mature enough to get hitched, we should be even more of an adult in resolving divorce-related issues. What makes it worse is that when such issues prevail on social media, it will be even more of a burden to both parties. Remember that we do not need to explain ourselves to anyone especially our private lives. Cliché as it sounds, you really don’t have to, unless you feel the need to *queue keyboard warriors*
