TLDR

  • Former chef Nicky in Alor Setar offers unlimited fried noodles, vermicelli, and kway teow for just RM3 to help those in need.
  • He opened the stall as a way to give back to the community that once helped him during difficult times.
  • Nicky’s stall operates daily from 7 AM to 11 AM and plans to extend its operating hours into the evening.

Everyone has their own way of giving back to society. Some volunteer their time, others donate what they can, and for one former chef in Alor Setar, it means making sure no one leaves hungry.

At his humble stall located in the Crystal Food Park City food court, ex-chef Nicky, 51, has been serving “bottomless” fried vermicelli, noodles, and kway teow for just RM3 per person.

In an interview with China Press, Nicky said he worked as a chef in the UK for 17 years before joining Sheraton Hotels and Resorts in Singapore.

In 2016, he returned to Alor Setar to care for his sick father until his passing. He currently lives with his elderly mother.

A way to repay the kindness he received many years ago

Nicky first opened his stall at the food court last year. According to him, the “all-you-can-eat” concept was created as a way to repay the help he received from society in the past.

“I came from a less fortunate family. Back then, others helped me so much, so I hope that in this way, I can repay their kindness and give back to society.”

Nicky said the majority of his customers are factory workers who earn less than RM2,000 a month. When they visit his stall, they can enjoy as much food as they want without breaking the bank.

According to him, he prepares a total of around 60kg of vermicelli, noodles, and kway teow each day.

Beyond the unlimited servings of fried vermicelli, noodles, and kway teow, Nicky’s stall also serves side dishes to pair with the meal, such as eggs, luncheon meat, and curry chicken. However, these items are charged separately. The stall also offers other hot dishes, such as seafood yee mee.

For now, Nicky’s stall operates from 7 AM to 11 AM or until noon daily. However, he plans to expand operations from 4 PM to 9 PM so he can continue providing affordable meals to others.
