Car Stolen With Child Inside While Parents Buy Breakfast in PJ, Both Found Safe by Police

A tense moment was experienced by a family when their car, which they had left briefly to buy breakfast, was stolen along with their daughter in an incident at Sungai Way, yesterday morning.

Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said they received a report about the incident at around 7:24 AM.

“At the time of the incident, the local couple had parked their vehicle by the roadside and left their daughter inside the car while they went to buy breakfast."

"The complainant realised that their vehicle had been driven away by the suspect and immediately contacted the police for assistance,” he said in a statement.

Following the report, police launched Op Tutup, and with the help of the public, the vehicle was successfully located along with the child at Mentari Court Apartments, Petaling Jaya, about three hours after the operation began.

“The child was then handed back to the couple. Efforts to track down the perpetrator are ongoing,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 363 of the Penal Code for kidnapping.

Meanwhile, Shamsudin advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information about the incident to avoid confusion and not jeopardise the authorities’ investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to come forward to the nearest police station or contact the Petaling Jaya District Police Operations Room at 03-7966 2222 or the Investigating Officer, Inspector Mohd Azman Ayob, at 012-223 7272 to assist in the investigation.
