Despite so, DBKL only managed to collect RM2mil from traffic offenders - well short of their RM100mil target.
Now that the deadline has passed, DBKL is pissed and they have decided to take stern action: by blacklisting traffic offenders who failed to pay up.
According to a report by The New Straits Times, the blacklisting of traffic offenders will be done by the Road Transport Department (RTD) soon.
KL Mayor Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan told the daily that the drastic measure was suggested by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad.
Oh, and this is not just an empty threat; they are really going to blacklist errant offenders.
“For now, we will press ahead with blacklisting the traffic offenders, seeing that DBKL’s offer of settling summonses at discounted rates have failed to encourage offenders to clear their summonses," Nor Hisham was quoted as saying.
Once blacklisted, errant drivers will not be able to renew their driving licences and road tax until they settle all their outstanding summonses - with no discount!
Last time got discount don't want to pay. Now you're on your own, guys.
