Heavy Vehicles Will Be Banned From Malaysian Roads During Chinese New Year Period

The Chinese New Year festive season is approaching us soon, and no matter if you celebrate it or not, we can all agree on one thing: there will be massive traffic congestion everywhere since everyone wants to balik kampung.

So, in order to help reduce congestion as well as accidents, the Ministry of Transport has made the decision to ban heavy vehicles on the road throughout the festive period.

The ban will take place on 14-15 February and 24-25 February 2018.

According to the Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, this isn’t the first time the government has imposed the ban.

“This (heavy vehicles ban) has been done before (to reduce accidents and keep the traffic smooth) and we are rolling out a 14-day road safety campaign starting from Friday (Feb 9),” Liow told the New Straits Times.

He also advised Malaysians to follow the rules and regulations, and take coffee breaks whenever necessary for their own safety.

So, we hope that no trailers or lorries will be seen on the road during this festive period. Remember to drive safe and always adhere to the speed limit when making your way back to your hometown.
