Kind Homeowner Rejects Compensation After Soldier Damages Roof During Parachute Landing

One Malaysian soldier shares a heartwarming interaction between him and a homeowner after he had crashed landed on their roof back in 2022.

Reminiscing the experience on TikTok, the soldier said, the incident happened during a parachute drill in Taiping, Perak.

According to him, unforeseen circumstances caused him to be forced to land on a residential rooftop instead of the designated spot.

Recalling the event, the soldier said even though he lived to tell the story, he was sure at that moment that he must have broken a few bones.

Fortunately, despite landing on the roof with his feet breaking through, he emerged unscathed.

“After I crash landed on the roof, I laid there for about two minutes trying to make sense of what had happened. It was the owner of the house who called me from below to ask if I was okay when I finally stood up,” he wrote.

The homeowner refused payment for the damaged roof and instead told the soldier that his life was more valuable.

The soldier further shared that when he came down with the help of the homeowner and neighbours, he was touched when they offered him a canned drink and a seat.

He also shared that the homeowner refused compensation despite the state of their roof.

“I tried to offer payment as compensation but the homeowner, a Chinese uncle, refused to accept it. He said my life is worth more than the roof and he can just call a friend to help repair it.”

As of this writing, the video has gone viral with more than a million views. Many TikTok users took to the comment to express relief that the soldier was unharmed, while others praised the generous and kind homeowner.

Additionally, some TikTok users shared their own experiences with similar incidents involving their partners and acquaintances.

“My husband once crash-landed on a tree in front of our village. He said he could only watch as the villagers laughed at him. He said not only was he embarrassed but also in pain from the crash,” said a user.
