Pahang Farmer Attacked by 12 Robbers Armed with Parang in Violent Musang King Durian Heist
Durian fever might be everywhere, so the King of Fruits is in high demand. The high value of these durians led a gang of robbers to attack a farmer in Raub, Pahang, to steal RM3,000 worth of Musang King durians.
Sin Chew reported that Huang Jiabao (transliteration), a durian orchard owner from Sungai Liang in Raub, Pahang, entered his property to check on his durians when he was slashed on his head and hands with a machete by a gang of about 12 robbers. The 44-year-old was even stabbed twice in the head and the left elbow, deep to the bone. He was later sent to Hospital Kuala Lipis for emergency treatment.
His younger brother Huang Jiaxing, also a durian orchard owner, went to report the case at the Raub police station along with 40 other durian farmers. He elaborated that durian theft had been rampant lately, and his brother had received a tip-off about thieves from Indonesian workers. He then went to the plantation alone at around 11 pm and left a message in their local farmer WhatsApp group that he was doing so.

“My brother arrived at his land and saw a group of thieves, so he asked them what they were doing there. One of them took a parang from his car and stabbed him in the head. He was stabbed four times in total,” said the 40-year-old. When several friends who had followed him arrived at the scene, they saw that Huang Jiabao had fallen to the ground and the thieves were leaving.
Huang Jiaxing said he assumed that the group of thieves had travelled from Kampung Sungai Chalit, which has also seen theft and injury incidents lately. Recently, an Indonesian worker was chopped in the foot.
Zheng Yiqing, the chairman of the Save Musang King Alliance (Samka), a group comprising durian farmers without permits in Raub, said that many orchard owners have recently informed him of durian thefts in various parts of Pahang. He added that they are well-organised and also steal water pumps, lawn movers, and agricultural tools.
Zheng Yiqing said that this affected the daily lives of the farmers and called the police to take action to protect them.
