Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing Passes Away At 75
Founder of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing has passed away, Free Malaysia Today reported.
According to the report, an aide to the educator confirmed his passing.
Just last week (25 May 2021), news surfaced that the 75-year-old was hospitalised after a fall, but was in a stable condition.
An illustrious career
Although Lim was most known for the university named after himself, he had long been involved in the creative industry in Malaysia. The university's website describes him as "an artist, designer, author, entrepreneur, educationist and philanthropist."
He started his career as an illustrator, designing book covers. He then had his own serial comic strip - ABU - which was published by Eastern Sun in Malaysia and Singapore.
When the newspaper folded two years later, Lim joined international ad-agency McCann-Erickson, where he rose to the rank of creative director.
In 1975, he started his own agency, Wings Creative Consultants. 13 years later, his consultancy collaborated with BBDO and were a part of many large advertising campaigns.
It wasn't until 1991 that Lim started dabbling in education, starting Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology which then became the first private college to be recognised as a university college in 2002. It was later renamed the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
He opened branches in many Asian and African countries.
Despite many controversy surrounding the man and even his education institutes, he remained a force to be reckoned with.
Rest in Peace, sir. And condolences to the family.
